| New Hampshire - A History By Hobart Pillsbury, 1927 Volume III, Page 912 Benjamin A. Kimball - Benjamin A. Kimball died July 25, 1920, at his summer home in Gilford at the age of 86. He was the foremost citizen of Concord, and bequeathed to the State his mansion on Main Street to be used as an executive mansion. The State, however, declined to accept the gift on the ground that many Governors would not care to reside in Concord and the state would not be justified in the expense of maintaining the mansion. The building was subsequently sold to the Masonic fraternity and remodeled into a shrine temple. Mr. Kimball was a native of Boscawen and belonged to an old New Hampshire family.
