A $4 million proposal to turn the aging Kimball's Castle into a pricey resort hotel has been brought back before the town.

Historic Inns of New England hopes to revamp the 8,500-square-foot structure, a former private summer estate, and build a new wing for a 40-room inn and 170-seat restaurant.

The new construction would total around 30,000 square feet, according to Don Leavitt, one of two general partners of the firm.

The company has an option to buy the town-owned property, but the deal is dependent upon town approval of the project.
